Introduction

Champions are created by nurturing talent through rigorous training, apt coaching and right guidance. With this belief, The Directorate of Sports & Youth Affairs, Government of Jharkhand was established to facilitate promotion and development of Sports & Games in the State of Jharkhand. The objectives include the creation of infrastructure conducive to overall development of sports at all levels across the State. Also conducting competition and motivating local participation to improve sports ecosystem in the State.

Jharkhand is a rising star in the field of Sports. Several of its players are now playing for the country, especially in the games of Hockey and Archery. Jharkhand has continuously excelled at national and international levels brining several accolades to the state and the country. Jharkhand’s only Olympic medalist, Jaipal Singh captained the Indian national hockey team to clinch the gold medal at the 1928 Amsterdam Olympics. The state is home to famous athletes such as Michael Kindo, Helen Soy, Sabitri Purti, Charles Brownes, Varun Aaron, Saurabh Tiwari, Ashunta Lakra, Vimal Lakra to name of few. One of the emerging sport personality is Deepika Kumari, a young athlete who competes in the event of Archery and won gold medal in the 2010 Commonwealth games in the women’s individual recurve event. The department is committed towards development of the youth through sports and to channelize their energy in overall socio-economic development and growth of Jharkhand. Simdega is also known as ‘Cradle of Hockey’ in the state. It have given top notch sportsman at Olympics representing the county. Sylvanus Dung Dung is former olympian who won Gold at 1980 Moscow Olympics in Hockey. Michael Kindo is another olympian winning Bronze at 1972 summer olympics. Asunta Lakra captain of India’s women Hockey Team hails from Simdega Recently, the city has got an ‘Astroturf Hockey Stadium’ for budding Hockey players for the area.It has an outdoor stadium named Albert Ekka Stadium for other sports.

Facilitate the development of talented and motivated youth by providing them with the necessary support and pathways to excel at higher levels.

Professional management of programs, coaches, events and facilities, to ensure the participants gain the desired benefits from sporting activity.

ACTIVITY-

1. There are total 03 residential center of hockey and 01 residential center football.
2. There are total 06 day boarding hockey center in simdega district
3. All the day boarding trainees are getting RS 500 scholarship every month.
4. All the residential center trainess are getting RS 175 everyday in form of fooding.
